QTAC Information Sheet
Offers and Responses
Offer Rounds
The allocation of a tertiary place to an eligible applicant is known as an 'offer'. All offers are released by QTAC in 'offer rounds'. For more information on offer rounds, please see Key Dates. To determine when your course is being offered, you can access Search for Courses or your Preferences in Current Applicant online services for more information.
Number of Offers
All applicants are considered simultaneously, and places are offered on the basis of merit to the most qualified applicant, in accordance with institutional admission policies. Although you can currently apply for as many as six different courses through QTAC, you will generally receive only one offer at any one time. This will be for the highest preference for which you are eligible and more highly ranked, relative to other applicants for the same course. This ensures that tertiary places are not wasted as a result of some applicants receiving numerous offers and others consequently missing out entirely.
Please note that for international applicants, offers are made directly to the applicant by the institution not by QTAC.
Notification of an Offer
Once an offer round has occurred, applicants who have lodged their application online or paid for web access can find out if they have received an offer by using Current Applicant online services.
QTAC also publishes offers in the press (selected newspapers). If an applicant wants to have their offer withheld from publication, they need to contact QTAC to obtain the relevant form. This form must be completed and submitted to QTAC at least two weeks before offers are released.
Successful applicants will also receive an offer letter from QTAC and enrolment information from the institution.
Enrolment
You will receive enrolment information from the institution not long after you receive your offer from QTAC. If you decide to accept an offer, you must also complete your enrolment with the relevant institution by the dates specified.
Please note, if you do not receive enrolment information from the tertiary institution please notify them directly, not QTAC.
Deferment of offer
Deferment means that you wish to accept an offered place but wish to delay your commencement of the course, usually for a period of one year. Most tertiary institutions will allow deferment. However, some institutions will only accept deferment if the applicant has been selected to participate in an international pre-tertiary exchange program, or has experienced special hardships due to ill health or other exceptional circumstances. If you wish to defer you should carefully read the institution advice provided with the enrolment information or check with the admissions office of the institution before responding to your offer.
If you receive an offer from an institution that permits deferment, you must select the appropriate deferment response from the offer response options. You can choose to defer via Current Applicant online services or the QTAC Response to Offer slip at the bottom of your offer letter.
Respond to an Offer
If you receive an offer you must respond to QTAC by the date specified on the offer letter.
Applicants can respond to an offer by:
- Current Applicant online services
- Response to Offer slip at the bottom of their offer letter
If you do not respond to an offer by the lapse date you may lose your right to that offer and you will not be considered for any other courses.

No offer
If you were not offered a place into one of your preferred courses in the major offer round, you may wish to check the status of your application before changing preferences for future offer rounds. You can check this via Current Applicant online services.
If you did not receive an offer in the major round this is generally due to:
- quota restrictions (that is, your OP or selection rank did not meet the cut-off); or
- failure to satisfy Minimum Entry Requirements such as a subject or portfolio/audition prerequisite;
- failure to pay QTAC processing charges.
If you did not receive an offer in the major round offer due to quota restrictions you will automatically be considered for these courses in any subsequent offer rounds, if further offers are made. If you were ineligible for the courses you applied for, you may change your preferences for consideration in any subsequent offer rounds if further offers are made.
Changing Preferences as Part of a Response
If you are made an offer and you then decide that you wish to gain entry to a course you listed as a lower preference or to a course that you had not previously applied for, you may change your preferences for consideration in future offer rounds, if further offers are made. You can do this via Current Applicant online services or in writing for a fee.
As part of changing your preferences you have the option to:
- accept the offer but still be considered for new higher preferences in any further offer rounds
- reject the offer but still be considered for new higher preferences in any further offer rounds
- apply to defer the offer but still be considered for new higher preferences in any further offer rounds
Please note that if you conditionally accept an offer and are subsequently offered a higher preference, you forfeit the right to enrol in the preference previously offered. If you are not made a subsequent offer for a higher preference, you will retain the offer you conditionally accepted from the previous offer round. View more...
